1.Prepainted Steel

Color-coated steel sheets, also known as color-coated steel plates, are manufactured by applying one or multiple layers of organic coatings to the surface of metal coil substrates after special surface treatment. These coatings are then cured at high temperatures through specialized processes to create the finished product. Since the product features various attractive colors upon completion, it is termed “color-coated steel sheet.” We commonly abbreviate it as “color steel sheet” or “color-coated sheet.”

2.The hot-dip Al-Zn coated steel

Hot-dip aluminum-zinc steel sheets are pre-coated steel sheets produced by applying a double-sided hot-dip coating of Al-Zn alloy to cold-rolled steel sheets of various strengths and thicknesses. The coating composition consists of approximately 55% Al, 1.6% Si, and 43.4% Zn by mass percentage. It combines aluminum’s physical protection and high durability with zinc’s electrochemical protective properties. Additionally, the surface exhibits a highly decorative bright silver-gray luster with a regular pattern and a raised texture.

3.Hot dip Al-Zn steel sheet

BaoAM is a member of Baosteel’s GalVAluMag™ series of products. As an upgraded version of the original galvanized aluminum-zinc (GL) coating with added magnesium, it offers superior flat surface corrosion resistance and significantly enhanced cut edge corrosion resistance. It is widely applicable in the construction and home appliance industries. BaoAM™ is also a dedicated eco-friendly product from Baosteel. 4.Galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanizing refers to the process of coating steel with molten zinc. Commonly known as “white iron sheet” in China, it has been widely used in construction long before its adoption as a substrate for color-coated steel. Its coating surface exhibits a cast finish, featuring uniformly bright zinc flowers (though automotive and appliance applications often prefer a rough, zinc-flower-free surface). Various surface conditions exist.

  The process of applying zinc to steel surfaces via hot-dip coating for corrosion protection is termed galvanizing. Currently, galvanized steel sheets are extensively utilized in construction, piping, home appliances, color-coated panels, automotive manufacturing, and other industries. To meet market demands, new hot-dip galvanizing production lines are continuously being established, alongside the development of new technologies and product varieties.

5.Colored Coated Products for Livestock Industry

  Specialized colored coated products for the livestock industry differ from ordinary building materials. They must withstand humid heat, strong acids and alkalis, manure and excrement decomposition, and disinfectant solutions. These products require exceptional chemical resistance to withstand the unique chemical environment of livestock facilities. While enduring these rigorous challenges, the paint film must maintain its integrity and performance.

How to Identify Baosteel Color-Coated Steel Sheets

Baosteel’s architectural color-coated steel sheets utilize the following substrates:

Hot-dip galvanized substrate, hot-dip aluminized-zinc substrate, galvanized aluminum-magnesium substrate.

Substrate requirements for Baosteel’s standard polyester (PE) color-coated sheets:

Hot-dip galvanized substrate must have a total zinc coating weight of 120 g/m² or higher on both sides (Z120);

Hot-dip aluminum-zinc coated substrate: total aluminum-zinc coating weight of 100 g/m² or more on both sides (AZ100);

Hot-dip zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated substrate: total zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating weight of 100 g/m² or more on both sides (AM100).

Base Material Requirements for Baosteel’s High Weatherability (HDP) Color-Coated Steel Sheets:

Hot-dip galvanized base material must have a total zinc coating weight of 180 g/m² or higher on both sides; Hot-dip galvanized aluminum-zinc substrate: total aluminum-zinc coating weight of 150 g/m² or more on both sides (AZ150); Hot-dip galvanized aluminum-magnesium substrate: total magnesium-aluminum-zinc coating weight of 150 g/m² or more on both sides (AM150).

Galvanized sheet process and common grades

I. Definition

Galvanized sheet, also known as galvanized steel sheet, refers to a layer of metallic zinc being plated on the surface of low-carbon steel base plates (such as cold-rolled sheets and hot-rolled sheets) to prevent the steel sheets from corroding and rusting.

II. Main Production Processes

According to the differences in galvanizing processes, they are mainly divided into two categories:

1.Hot-dip galvanizing

Feature:

The coating is relatively thick (typically 40-200 μm), with excellent corrosion resistance and a long service life (up to 20-50 years).

The surface features zinc granules (including large zinc granules, small zinc granules, and no zinc granules), and its aesthetic quality is relatively average.

The cost is relatively low and it is the most widely used galvanizing method.

Main standards: GB/T 2518, ASTM A653, JIS G3302.

2. Electro-galvanizing

Feature:

The coating is thin (typically 3-20 μm), uniform and smooth, with excellent surface quality.

The corrosion resistance is average and not as good as hot-dip galvanizing, but it is easy to undergo subsequent processing (such as painting, phosphating).

It has good processing formability and welding performance.

The cost is usually higher than that of hot-dip galvanizing.

Main standards: GB/T 15675, ASTM A879.

DC51D+Z (SGCC): Ordinary commercial-grade hot-dip galvanized sheet.

DC52D+Z (SGC340): Hot-dip galvanized sheet for mechanical clamping.

  Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel, can be divided into two major categories: oriented silicon steel and non-oriented silicon steel. Oriented silicon steel is produced through special processing techniques, where the body-centered cubic crystal lattice of the steel plate is aligned parallel to the rolling direction and the surface is parallel to the rolling surface, thus forming the GOSS structure. In contrast, the crystal grains of non-oriented silicon steel are generally arranged in a disordered structure. Therefore, oriented silicon steel is mainly used to manufacture transformers that operate in a stationary state and require anisotropy, while non-oriented silicon steel is mainly used to manufacture motors that operate in a running state and require isotropy.
