How to Identify Baosteel Color-Coated Steel Sheets

Baosteel’s architectural color-coated steel sheets utilize the following substrates:

Hot-dip galvanized substrate, hot-dip aluminized-zinc substrate, galvanized aluminum-magnesium substrate.

Substrate requirements for Baosteel’s standard polyester (PE) color-coated sheets:

Hot-dip galvanized substrate must have a total zinc coating weight of 120 g/m² or higher on both sides (Z120);

Hot-dip aluminum-zinc coated substrate: total aluminum-zinc coating weight of 100 g/m² or more on both sides (AZ100);

Hot-dip zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated substrate: total zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating weight of 100 g/m² or more on both sides (AM100).

Base Material Requirements for Baosteel’s High Weatherability (HDP) Color-Coated Steel Sheets:

Hot-dip galvanized base material must have a total zinc coating weight of 180 g/m² or higher on both sides; Hot-dip galvanized aluminum-zinc substrate: total aluminum-zinc coating weight of 150 g/m² or more on both sides (AZ150); Hot-dip galvanized aluminum-magnesium substrate: total magnesium-aluminum-zinc coating weight of 150 g/m² or more on both sides (AM150).

Color-Coated Steel Sheet: The Color Revolution and All-Rounder in the Steel Industry

Color-coated steel sheet, the full name being color-coated steel sheet, is a composite material. It uses cold-rolled steel sheets, galvanized steel sheets, or aluminum sheets as the substrate. After surface pre-treatment, one or multiple layers of organic coatings are applied, followed by baking and curing. It is not merely simple steel but a modern industrial material that integrates protection, decoration, and functionality.

Substrate Layer: The Sturdy Internal Framework
The “skeleton” of a color-coated steel sheet is formed by different types of metal substrates:

• Cold-rolled substrate: Lower cost but relatively weaker corrosion resistance, typically used for indoor environments.
• Hot-dip galvanized substrate: The zinc layer provides sacrificial anode protection, significantly enhancing corrosion resistance.
• Aluminum-zinc coated substrate (Galvalume): Combines the weatherability of aluminum with the sacrificial protection of zinc, offering excellent comprehensive performance.
• Electro-galvanized substrate: Features a uniform and fine surface, suitable for high-end home appliances and electronic products.
• Aluminum sheet substrate: Lightweight with excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for special environments.

Coating System: The External Color and Protection
The coating is the “skin” of the color-coated steel sheet, typically including:

• Primer: Adheres directly to the substrate, providing anti-corrosion function and coating adhesion.
• Topcoat: Determines the final color, gloss, and weatherability performance.
• Backcoat: Provides additional protection for specific applications.
• Special coatings: Such as PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) fluorocarbon coatings, which offer super weatherability with a service life reaching 20-30 years.
